Has anyone investigated, or know of someone with experience with gas station filling vault explosion. We have an incident where the tank was filled with Dot 1203 unleaded gasoline at 2000hrs, the day prior to the explosion, at 0835 hrs the next morning there was a gas vapor explosion,ejecting the spring loaded clamped filling lid in to the air and it landing on the canopy of the pump island.
Here coms the fun part at exactly the same time of the explosion a power company transformer went ground to fault from a "Squirell grounding itself on the tank and chewing through the conductor"the power grid for the area was out for two to three hours.
Both of the filler caps were distorted from heat these were 4" diameter with gasket.
There is a water sensor in the base of the vault that is supplied with 13-15VDC that that attaches to the TLS Vapor recovery system the alarm did not activate.
Any leads in this subject would be appericated. If you know of a expert in the industry who could shed some of the preverbale light on this it would be appericated.
