Wow, nice hijacking of a topic. This is what I love about this forum. I'm just surprised that nobody worked in "IAAI vs. NAFI, this is why 921 should be adopted as a standard"
Anyway, I proctored a NAFI CFEI exam yesterday for a co-worker, and am a strong advocate of the IAAI CFI. I do not believe they are equal, but I do believe that they are both necessary.
Now my opinion on some earlier posts regarding CFEI. I do not believe that anyone's rules should be laxed because the test taker is an attorney. If you don't have the qualifications, but want the certification, then give them the same test, but a different acronym (CFIL Certified Fire Investigation Litigator). This would prevent the types of abuse mentioned by Mazerat. With the different “handle”, you could simply say counselor, our certifications are not the same. I am unqualified for your certification and you are unqualified for mine. In my opinion, Investigator refers to Investigator and not Litigator….but I’ve been wrong before.
All this being said, I may move into the private sector one day and if I do, I will not lose any work because I don't have the proper Certification De Jour, I will get them all.
