I was so busy writing I forgot the question. My experience is that smoke detectors, if they are operating properly, sould sound an alarm long before there would be enough heat to cause the plastic cover fall off, something over 240F or the plastic back plate to soften enough to pull away from the screws, no matter where the fire came from.
