I use a Canon 10D at 6.2 megapixels set at the highest jpeg capability. The resolution is more than adequate for any image analysis, powerpoint presentation, and poster sized prints. I actually make the file size smaller for report photos. I was initially excited by the "power" of the RAW format but have found it is not worth the trouble and such images just take up too much disc space. At 6.1 megapixels, the D50 is quite adeqaute.
As for software, I have found ACDSee to be the easiest to use and to have the most intuitive operations. If you are an IAAI member you can get a substantial discount on the ACDSee family of software by calling the person listed below.
Disclaimer (thank you counsel): Note that the IAAI does not endorse nor do they have a position on the pro's or con's of the ACDSee products and is only providing information regarding available member benefits.
