IBC 2003 Section 1404.9 vinyl siding must comply with ASTM C 1186. Additionally, the manufacture of the siding will provide nailing/fastening requirements. The IBC, as do all codes, require compliance with manufacturer’s installation instructions.

NFPA 70 (NEC) has provisions for protection of type NM cable against nails/screws.
