Lets be clear by what I mean when I say "punish" the expert. To me that means impeaching his conclusions.
To answer your question, if someone is convicted based on incorrect data, then that conviction should be reviewed and reversed if in fact it was based on bad science.
If NFPA is shown to have incorrect date, no it should not be "taken off the publication list" the information should be corrected. In fact, unlike almost any other publication on fire investigation, NFPA 921 has a mechanism by which errors can be corrected. First, a temporary interm ammendment (TIA) can be issued. Second, because the document is in a 3 year cycle, it is updated frequently.
