I have seen numerous tests where the fire burned for minutes beyond flashover AND the fire pattern at the origin survived. The problem is not so much the survival of the pattern, but the ability of fire investigators to recognize the significance of the surviving pattern, especially in the presence of a much more prominent ventilation-generated pattern. The patterns shown in the attached photo were produced in a test fire that burned for 3.5 minutes beyond flashover.
In determining an origin, I think the goal should be to identify the ventilation-generated patterns and ignore them. Depth of calcination and heat and flame vector analyses would be useless, and probably misleading, in the example shown.
