home a/c flex duct

Any remarks on a/c flex duct in homes:
Had a small fire in one room, fire extinguished.
About five hours later, fire in the attic. Appears that form the first fire that some embers or hot material got into a run of flex duct and smoldered till got the right combination and went to free burn stage. The duct was on the first floor and made a turn upwards and runs through the second floor to the atiic and units inthe attic.
Looking for any comments on flex duct.
