The Code you want (and the code Dennis wants as well) is NFPA 70B,
Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance.

This code covers the commissioning of new systems, as well as the development and implementation of an effectiove electrical preventive maintenance program.

The code has evelved significantly over the years (as all good standards do). The most recent edition is 2006.
