Your statement,"I agree some courts are putting more emphasis on the document than was intended by the National Fire Protection Association,"suggests that you think I said that. I certainly did not mean that. The recognition of NFPA 921 as a standard of care by courts or any other body is consistent with its intended use.

A standard of care is not mandatory, but failing to follow it may, in some circumstances, be construed as negligent. Conclusions based on investigations that vary significantly from the guidance provided in 921, especially when those conclusions involve the misinterpretation of post-fire artifacts, are likley to be deemed unrelaible.
