What I am asking is if anyone believes in the theory of pyrophoric carbonization. There are those who believe that long term exposure to temperatures below the accepted ignition temperature of wood can lower the ignition temperature so that the subject wood can be ignited by a temperature below the normally accepted ignition temperature.

I have read NIST studies that say that this does not happen. A court case saying that since it had not been tested, and can't be tested, it was not allowed to be hypothesized. I have read papers where the author documents it does occur and uses several different fires involving a cheese melter creating a pyrophoric condition as proof that it occurs. We know Vyto believes it occurs.

Has anyone ever used this hypothesis as the cause of a fire event? By the lack of response I am not sure that anyone wants to jump out there and give an opinion.
