A person involved with the new CFI calculator used this equation listed below to determine radiant heat transfer from the radiating body to the target body. He stated this equation came from Dr. Quintiere’s Advance Principles of Fire Behavior. I do not know if this equation is included in the new CFI calculator but considering it is for heat transfer from one body to another, I would expect it is part of the calculation used by the calculator. The person was asked what is the error rate of this equation. His answer was plus or minis 20 to 30%. If this is correct, and I do not know if the answer was correct, I believe this information as to error rate show be described in the manual for the calculator.
