I know of many heavy equipment companies who mix large amounts of kerosene in with theri diesel in the winter time to keep it from gelling up. Right now, kerosene is less expensive than diesel and it would be inviting to use a cheaper product which burns cleaner than diesel. It also has a lower ignition point.
I've also heard of some using the Isopropyl drygas in diesel without understanding that it was intended for gasoline and not diesel. This too could reduce the flash point and increase fume buildup. I think it's a good idea to see exactly what's in the tank and go from there.
