Your restating of the hypotheses is correct. As it is also a restating of the accepted science in the field of combustion science and fire dynamics, I see no reason to "re-think on commonly held positions."
What I also do not see is Dr. Hurst's apparent position in his post that: “oxygen can burn.”
His answer to my queries about his original post, “Commonly held positions are often incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete,” does not resolve the issue.
Apparently “common sense” is not so common, especially among those without formal training in combustion science or fire dynamics.
Oxygen does not burn! It cannot be a fuel and therefore there can be no such thing as an oxygen fire.
Still waiting to see some citations for Dr. Hurst’s “uncommon” position.
