Eric:
Apparently we have had different experiences.
I have published copyrighted articles to numerous trade magazines over the last two decades and the only problem I have ever had is with the IAAI F&A Investigator. Even the California Conference of Arson Investigators, which Ms. White also is the Editor for, has not questioned or held a single article that I am aware of from this or any author for their publication. They publish articles for all members to read and consider. Some agree and some don't but the information is out there for all to consider. Many other trade magazines (other than fire investigation field) also do not have problems with this, all they ask for is written permission to republish.
You may disagree but my experiences are that this is common-place. Maybe it is a west-coast thing.
Regards,
Chris
