Pat:
I can agree more with your opening statement. I understand your comment “true consensus”, but it leaves something out for me and I believe others. My question will always be is this document a consensus of the entire fire investigation profession or just of the National Fire Protection Association. Yes, I know any person can submit suggestions, but what percentage of the fire investigation community gets to vote on the document. What percentage of the fire investigation community attends the NFPA meeting where a vote for the approval of the document is taken? If any one is suggesting that by consensus, they mean “group solidarity in sentiment and belief”, then my question is what percentage of the total fire investigation community is this group?
I can find not other profession that has one document as their standard of care, this includes the medical, engineering, and legal professions. I found where the medical profession has two standards of care for the treatment of one illness. I hope you can see that to me the terminology “standard of care” is much more complex than the adoption of one specific document.
I will agree, this is just a personal preference but it is my preference for now.
Thanks
Jim
