Scientific Method

A Google search for Scientific Method resulted in any ware from 4 steps to 8 steps. Where did the NFPA 921 committee conclude that the 7-step method was the only one to use & did they use their own wording to describe each step. After researching the 4-8 step methods I have concluded they are the same. They either add or delete steps but use the same process. With this research I have concluded that it really does not matter which one you use, the results should be the same. As for step 1 & 2, I think they should be the same on most incidents called to. 1 - there was a fire or explosion, 2 - will investigate the fire or explosion. The next 5 steps are the ones that guide the investigation.
