What happens after the hypothesis is disproved? Is it still considered a viable hypothesis or is it eliminated from the consideration process?
I can just see you telling a judge during a Daubert hearing that you have a reliable hypothesis but that you have not eliminated all valid hypotheses. The opposing attorney will love you.
I do not know if you want to discount 921, but 921 states that to form a final hypothesis one must ensure that all feasible hypotheses have been considered and eliminated. I would take this to mean one is to eliminate all hypotheses that are not feasible. When one eliminates all hypotheses that are not feasible then one is using the process of elimination as defined through the instructions set forth by the NFPA.
You may have a reason to say you disagree with this method, however if an investigator uses it that investigator is following 921.
