The best way to test an hypothesis is by a thorough and devoted attempt to falsify it.
If you attempt to verify an hypothesis only by seeking corroborating evidence, you will probably succeed even if the hypothesis is dead wrong.
921 and the various textbooks often do not contain pat answers to specific real problems. The chief value of 921 lies in its sometimes too subtle warnings about what to avoid.
If there are no pat answers to your problem in the "usual" texts, you can often rely on chemistry, physics and engineering sources for answers.
