Your explanation hits the nail right on the head. What you describe is also my dilemma when it comes to classifying fire. The problem you suggest is exactly my problem with the terminology now being used. Any one involved with law enforcement or the fire service knows of the 10 codes. During the response of other agencies we learned that even though the police and fire service used the 10 codes they were not the same across the country. Both the police and fire service had problems communicating. Now both are in the process of converting over to plain text that is nationally recognized. Are we not falling into this same dilemma? There have been many topics discussed on this board where I misunderstood a person because of the difference in geographical difference in terminology. It took time before I understood what the person was trying to relate and then I ended up agreeing with him. Maybe we need to use the plain text concept over the one size fits all concept.
