Ha, my turn. The 921 committee states, “Determining the cause of a fire and classifying the cause of the fire are two separate processes that should not be confused with each other.” This wording could lead one to believe these are two seperate functions thereby having two seperate classifications. The investigator classifies the cause of the fire as accidental and the actual cause of ignition as undetermined. I believe you will see this could be taken as being consistent with intent of the committee’s statement. I am not saying I agree with the use of these terms in that way but only that it meets the intent of the document.
