I think we can both agree that the best thing that has happened to the fire investigation profession was when the first 921 suggested the use of the scientific method. Where we may disagree as to the fundamentals, we do agree that the purpose is to eliminate bias that may be in the process.
We do agree that the finding based on the use of the scientific method are not an absolute. They are based on the person make the conclusion. Other can use the same evidence and reach a different conclusion using the scientific method.
Bias is a concern in any investigation. The use of the scientific method, as found in 921, will reduce, if not eliminate, and bias the person conducting the investigation may have.
The proper use of the scientific method will give one the conclusion that is a more probable than not level of certainty. Most probable is the most reliable determination.
Science cannot produce a correct or accurate determination.
Any new evidence can cause a change in the finding. Therefore, it is important to consider all available evidence.
The interviewing of witnesses is part of the scientific method.
