I guess it matters more what the jury thinks about it. Unless the judge rules that you cannot even mention the destruction of notes, they will hear that they were destroyed and draw there own conclusions about it. In the age of spoliation claims, why anyone would destroy notes and give the other side the abilitly to argue spoliation is beyond me.
